Training Options

There are several options for training an agency to utilize the DARE to be You program in your community:

Option 1
The ideal training occurs when the replication site hosts a 20-hour DTBY training on site with
* a minimum of 5 of the replication staff and agency personnel,
* a steering committee personnel and personnel from collaborating agencies,
* a potential representatives from the parent population, and
* a potential teen education assistants.

The ideal number of participants in this training ranges from 15 to 25 participants, but the local training can accommodate up to 35 participants at no extra charge.

Option 2
DARE to be You hosts a centralized training at the DTBY training Center in Cortez Colorado two times/year.  The cost is $500 for the first person from an agency team and $250 for each additional person.  Manuals are additional.

Option 3
DTBY staff works with sites to see if there are several within a region that can share an onsite training.

A replication training is required when planning to implement the following DARE to be You programs in a community:  Preschool Families, Bridges Program for Families (with children ages 2 to 5) with Teachers, and CARE to Wait (families with middle school youth).  Replication trainings are also recommended for K-12 School and After-School, Peer Educators, Strong Extended Families and Community programs.

Training Objectives
At the completion of training, participants will have had the opportunity to learn and experience:

  1. The basic theory behind the DARE to be You program
  2. The general process and procedures of the intervention model for families with your target age group.adults with puppet activity
  3. The objectives of each component of the model.
  4. Experience with the key activities in the curriculum for both adults, children/youth and the parent-child/youth activities.
  5. Practice/coaching using the curriculum.
  6. Practical overview of a typical class session.
  7. Understanding of a balance between project fidelity and cultural adaptability (Fidelity Instrument)
  8. An opportunity to clarify any replication questions.

Training Costs
On-site model program training
A 20-hour replication training for up to 35 participants is $5,500 plus one trainer’s travel expenses.  One set of manuals is included.  Replication trainings are for the following programs:
DARE to be You for preschool families
Bridges program for families (with children kindergarten – 2nd grade) with teachers
Care to Wait for middle school families

The preschool and Care to Wait programs also include replication manuals.  Evaluation instruments are available for each program but not required.

Community, School/After-School, Peer Educator, or  Strong Extended Families training
15 hours of training for up to 35 participants is $3,000 plus one trainer’s travel expenses.  This training is designed for community building or implementation of K-12 curriculum for school/after-school, peer educators (high school), or strong extended family programs.  Manuals can be purchased separately based on individual community needs.

Off-Site Training
DARE to be You hosts a centralized training at the DTBY training center in Cortez, Colorado two times per year.  The cost is $500 for the first person from an agency team and $250 for each additional person.  Manuals and travel expenses are additional.
